Chicken! is a push-your-luck dice rolling game from Keymaster, for 2 to 8 players that plays in about 10 to 20 minutes. This one will have you laughing and gambling on your chickens. The game comes in a small, brightly colored cylinder that is the perfect size to throw into a backpack or add to your camping gear.

Setup

To set up Chicken!, you first unfold the cloth game board and put it in the middle of the play area. Each player will choose one of the Player Tokens and put it in the start area as indicated with yellow arrows, and the rest will go back into the container. Then put a line of yellow dice and a line of orange dice in the center area of the board. Rules per written, the player to most recently hold a chicken goes first, but no one at our table had ever held a chicken before, so we rolled dice to see who would start play. Finally, give the active player the 4 white dice. You are now ready to play Chicken!

Objective

The objective of Chicken is to be the first player to earn 25 points. To do this you will roll the dice. Chickens will gain you points. But if you roll 3 foxes you have busted and your turn is over.

Gameplay

At the beginning of a player’s turn they must choose one of the following actions: “Go for it!” and roll all dice passed to them or “Chicken Out” and return all yellow and orange dice to the middle of the play mat and lose 1 point for being a chicken!

Note: if a player is on the starting spot and Chicken Out, they do not lose 1 point.

When players roll dice they may get a chicken, an egg, a fox, or a blank. Players are looking to get the most chickens face up and the least amount of foxes. If a player chooses to roll all the dice given to them, they roll in a central area. Every rolled chicken is moved to the one side, and every fox to the other. Blank and egg dice stay in the middle. For each egg rolled, add a dice from the middle, starting with the yellow dice and moving to the orange dice when all of the yellow dice are in play. The orange dice are riskier with more foxes, but they also can yield higher rewards, with a 2 chicken symbol!

After adding the appropriate amount of dice, the player has a choice to re-roll the egg and blank dice. A player only gets one re-roll per turn. If 3 foxes are shown, the player had busted. If not, the player will count up all their chickens and move their player counter the appropriate amount of spaces. The first player to 25 points wins!

Final Thoughts

We first enjoyed Chicken! on a date night at home. It was great to play after dinner and easy to play on the coffee table. I enjoy push-your-luck games and Chicken! delivered. I think it would be a great all ages game to play as a family, and I love that the cloth playing board rolls up easily to take up less space. Overall it is a fun, quick game that would be a good addition to your game collection!
