Autumn hits different in Florida. Instead of nice, crisp days, apple picking, and fuzzy blankets, we’re smack dab in the middle of a humid hurricane season with thunderstorms almost every single day. While the weather has it’s charm, it just is not quite the same as the New England fall I grew up with. Luckily, with escapism and modern technology, I can delude myself into feeling those breezy autumn days with the magic of my Nintendo Switch 2! Listed below are some games I recommend for those cozy fall days you might be having, or at least can feel like you are having with the power of some story telling! I play on my Switch 2, however; all on this list play just fine with a Switch.
Aka
Aka was developed by Cosmo Gatto and published by NEOWIZ and is available for PC on Steam as well as Nintendo. In Aka, you play as a retired war veteran as you seek to find peace while exploring your surroundings. The main game play mechanic is exploration, but you can also farm, craft, relax, and complete various quests. You may be feeding a giant monster or helping to take care of the environment around you as you go through the world and meet new characters. In addition to everything you will be doing, you may also need to help ghosts from your past. This small, open world game allows you to escape into the story for a bit. I enjoy that it is non-linear, so you may experience the world on your own terms and that there was extra thought put into the game mechanics. For example, the farming method is based on permaculture principles, and even the wild animals play a part in it. Aka is an excellent game to experience.
Graveyard Keeper
Graveyard Keeper was developed by Lazy Bear Games and published by tinyBuild, and is available on all major gaming systems. This game was first described to me by a co worker as “spooky Stardew Valley.” Graveyard Keeper plays like a cozy farming sim, except that you are tending to a graveyard! You play as a regular person who was dropped into another world, and must take care of a medieval graveyard while searching for a way back home. To get back home, you will need to collect information from the NPC’s, who just may have a quest for you to complete in exchange for information. Now is an excellent time to try Graveyard Keeper, as the sequel is set to release at the end of September!
Love, Ghostie
Love, Ghostie was developed and published by Janbeh Games, LLC. This game is my newest fall love! You play as a ghost living in a manor with 6 residents. You spend your time setting up the residents matchmaker style. While it plays through kind of quickly (in about 3-6 hours), the music and setting are just wonderful and take you to another place. One lovely aspect of the game is that you can ship any resident with any resident, so you can play matchmaker to you heart’s content! You also have the ability to give them gifts, decorate their rooms, or ask them to complete tasks. With only 12 residents, there are 66 couple combinations to play though, giving the game excellent replay value. If dating sims are your jam, make sure to check out Love, Ghostie.
Palia
Palia, developed and published by Singularity 6, is a cross platform and free to play online game. Palia is kind of a stretch to recommend for the fall because they really do all seasons well! However, if you’re looking for some autumn charm, check out what they have going on. In this open world, non combat, MMO, you play as a human, which is a rare species in this world! There is PLENTY to keep you busy, from creating and decorating your homestead, farming and ranching, developing relationships with the locals, and completing quests, not to mention finding your own path. You will not be bored in this seemingly endless world! Palia is cross platform but it is worth mentioning that it is still in beta. This was a struggle for my Switch 2 when a lot of players were on at once. It is free to play and has so much content in it, however, it is hard to complain.

Strange Horticulture
Strange Horticulture was developed by Bad Viking and published by Iceberg Interactive. It is available across all major platforms. It is described as an “occult puzzle game” and has serious dark academia vibes to it. In Strange Horticulture you are discovering and identifying plant life for a wide variety of seemingly suspicious customers. A standard play though will take about 5-10 hours and all of your choices will have an effect on the outcome, which is always nice. You will spend your time identifying plants, assisting customers, and, of course, petting the cat!
The Wild at Heart
The Wild at Heart was created by Moonlight Kids and published by Humble Games. You play as two kids, Wake and Kirby, who have runaway from home and get lost in a magical forest. Wake and Kirby find themselves teamed up with the Greenshields and fight a corrupting force called the Never. The game mechanics are based on crafting and survival, but my favorite part was collecting these little creatures called Spritelings. Spritelings can be used by tossing them at enemies or obstacles and will assist in completing quests. These little guys are nothing short of adorable and make the game! Most of the adventure takes place during the day and at night, you must return to your campfire for safety. The Wild at Heart is available across all major platforms.
Wytchwood
Wytchwood was developed by Alientrap and is available across all major platforms. This is a crafting adventure game where you step into the role of a grumpy old witch of the woods (my actual dream life)! You wake up to a black goat, with whom you make a deal with to collect 12 specific souls in order to break a dark curse. Gather magical items and use your Grimoire to craft. There are also many puzzles to solve in this gothic-style world. It is a beautifully illustrated world that hits all of the cozy, fall feels!
