The box reads “Warm rain falls, soft music in the lake, where lillies dance” and you are brought into the soothing world of A Gentle Rain. A Gentle Rain is designed for 1 player but could easily handle more if you wanted it to be a cooperative experience. A great fit for a quiet activity!

What’s In the Box?
A Gentle Rain comes in a small, compact box with everything you need to play.
- 28 Tiles
- 8 Tokens
- 1 Rule Book
Setup
Setup for A Gentle Rain is simple! Find a table or other open space to place your Tiles, making sure you have enough space to spread them out. Shuffle all the Tiles together and place them upside-down in a stack. Place the Tokens to the side. You are now ready to play A Gentle Rain!
Objective
The objective of A Gentle Rain is to place the Tokens within the circles created by the Tiles. There are 8 Tokens, and you are working to place as many of them as possible.
Gameplay

A Gentle Rain is played by placing tiles together in a way that the flower patterns match. Each Tile has 4 sides, with each side containing half of a flower. Work the tiles similarly to dominos and complete as many flowers as you can. As you place your Tiles, small circles will form in the spaces between them. If you complete a circle, you may place a Token inside of any color that is surrounding it. Once you place a Token, it must stay where it is placed. You cannot move it if a more opportune space becomes available. If your Tile is able to be placed, it must be placed. If you cannot place a Tile, put it to the side. If you complete a circle and do not have a matching Token, no Token can bloom in that circle.
Gameplay ends when the 8th Token is placed, or when the Tile stack runs out. If you played all 8 Tokens, calculate your score by adding 1 point for every unused tile, and adding 8. If you end the game due to running out of Tiles to place, find the amount of Tokens you have placed. This is your score.
The game encourages you not to get frustrated if you didn’t get your top score. You can always revisit A Gentle Rain at another time and see how many Tokens you can place!
If you play with more than one player, simply take turns placing the Tiles onto the play area.
Final Thoughts
I had been looking forward to playing A Gentle Rain for a long time. A member of our usual game group generously loaned me their copy to review and it did not disappoint! It is not game built around high stakes or fast-paced excitement. Nor are you likely to find yourself joking and belly-laughing through your play through. Instead, the simplicity of A Gentle Rain is its beauty. A Gentle Rain allows you to slow down, put the screens away, and take a break for yourself. This will absolutely be one I return to over and over again! If you are looking for a solid solo game, with a nature theme, that will help to quiet the mind, I highly recommend A Gentle Rain!
