Overview
Tinderblox is a small tin, dexterity game that is easy to take on the go. It has a great theme of building a campfire. Designed by Rob Sparks and published by Alley Cat Games, Tinderblox is made for 2-6 players, ages 6 and up and plays in under 15 minutes.
What’s In the Box?
- 23 Tinderblox Cards
- 1 Campfire Card
- 20 Fire Cubes
- 20 Logs
- 1 pair of tweezers.
Setup
Setup for Tinderblox is very straight forward. You place the campfire card in the middle of the game play area, set the rest of the cards and fire cubes and logs near the center for easy access. On the campfire card, make sure you have 3 matching logs in the arrangement shown to start. Either side of the card works well. The tweezers get passed to whomever is the active player. Now you are ready to play! Per the rules, the person who most recently went camping goes first, but you can pick your first player however you feel comfortable.

Gameplay
Players will pick a Tinderblox card and use the tweezers to build what is pictured on the card. This arrangement is then lifted with the tweezers and added to the campfire. Additionally, the card might direct you to “switch hands” and work with your non-dominant hand while building. It is ok to drop a piece as you are building. You can pick it up and continue. It is not ok, however, to drop a piece onto the campfire card or cause a new or existing piece to fall into the fire, you are eliminated from game. This goes until only 1 player remains or you run out of cards. If more than one player remains at the end of play, they share the victory!
Our Experience
I first played Tinderblox on a girl’s trip a few years ago. It was easy to put into my carry on bag and had straight forward gameplay we could all follow. I appreciate tiny games like this when you are looking to fill some time. For us, some of the group played while others members were getting ready. I also appreciate Tinderblox because there are a lot of arrangements for such a small box.
Final Thoughts
Tinderblox is an excellent (and tiny), travel game that is ready for your next trip. While rated for ages 6+, I believe younger players could join with some assistance. It is a great addition to a growing game collection and perfect for many settings. If you are looking for a dexterity game that plays great on the go, look no further!
