Horrified by Ravensburger is a creepy, cooperative board game in which players attempt to defeat up to seven classic monsters from Universal Studios. Players can defeat The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Count Dracula, Frankenstein and the Bride, The Invisible Man, The Mummy, and The Wolf Man. The amount of monsters in the game is determined by the difficulty level the players set at the start of play. It is recommended to play with The Creature of the Black Lagoon and Dracula for your first play through, so that is what we did!

Setup
Setup will vary depending on the difficulty level set by the players. As it was our first time playing, we did the recommended setup with The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Count Dracula. Each monster has a Monster Mat with its unique rules for setting up. This was a handy guide due to there being so many piece to this game! For our play through, we had to set up the camp for The Creature of the Black Lagoon and 4 coffins around the game board for Count Dracula. The 60 Item Tokens start in the item bag. Based on what monsters you are playing, you pull some Item Tokens out and place them on to spaces on the board. These items are a huge help to the players as they can collect them as they move around the board. These items are then used when squaring up against the Monsters.
Gameplay

As Horrified is a cooperative game, players can speak to each other throughout all rounds of play. A player’s turn is split up into 2 phases: The Hero Phase and the Monster Phase.
During the Hero Phase, a player may take as many actions as indicated on their badge. In my case, I had 4 actions. Players may move one space, pick up an item, guide a villager, share items with other player’s on the same space, advance a monster task, defeat a monster or use their special action. Be sure to announce which actions you are taking, because your fellow players may notice things you are missing and offer advice.
During the Monster Phase, the player draws one Monster Card from the top of the deck and resolves all three parts of the card. Players must complete both phases before turn of play is passed in a clockwise direction.
Objective
In Horrified, players all win or lose together. The players win if they can defeat all monsters in play before the last Monster Card is drawn. Conversely, the players will lose if they can not defeat the Monsters before the last Monster Card is drawn or if the Terror Level reaches its maximum. In short, defeat the monsters as quickly as possible!
Final Thoughts
Horrified provided a night of good, cooperative strategy. The game kept us on our toes, and while we were able to thwart the monsters, the game ran down to the wire! I don’t think we could have survived additional monsters on our first play through. I also love a game that provides high replayability. With six different Monster Mats and a huge variation in what Item Tokens land on the board, it will be hard to get tired of Horrified any time soon. Horrified is perfect for the spooky season, and more so for anyone who loves classic monsters!
