Disney’s The Haunted Mansion: Call of the Spirits Game is a competitive board game where players explore the infamous mansion, collect Ghost Cards, and duel each other, all while navigating a constantly shifting game board. The goal is to earn the highest total value in Ghost Cards by the game’s end.

Setup

The game includes:

  • A Game Board
  • An Endless Hallway Centerpiece
  • 6 Player Markers
  • Hitchhiking Ghosts Mover
  • Haunt Cards, Ghost Cards, Event Cards, 6 Reference Cards
  • 1 First Player Marker
  • 2 Bidding Dials

Each player receives a Player Marker and Reference Card in their chosen color. Shuffle the Ghost and Haunt Cards, placing them face down near the board. For the Event Deck, remove the Final Round Card and discard a number of Event Cards equal to the number of players. These discarded Event Cards go to the bottom of the deck, and players start in the Séance Room. The player who most recently heard a ghost story begins the game as the First Player.

A circular hallway surrounds 3 bat style gargoyle meeples, colored purple, green and gray in the center. Rooms of different colors branch out from the center. A figure of 3 hitchhiking ghosts is off to the top left of the frame.

Gameplay

Each round consists of two phases:

  • Event Phase: Draw an Event Card to move the Hitchhiking Ghosts and place Ghost Cards throughout the mansion. The Event Card’s effect applies for the remainder of the round.
  • Action Phase: Players can take up to 3 actions, which may include:
    • Moving
    • Rotating the Endless Hallway
    • Collecting Ghost Cards
    • Dueling opponents
    • Discarding a Ghost Card

After all actions are completed, the First Player Marker moves to the next player. The game continues until the Final Round Card is drawn.

Endgame and Scoring

Once the game ends, players add up their Haunt Values from Haunt Cards. The player with the highest Haunt Value must discard their highest-value Ghost Cards. Ties force multiple players to discard their highest cards. After discarding, players sum the values of their remaining Ghost Cards, and the player with the highest total wins.

Final Thoughts

The standout feature of The Haunted Mansion: Call of the Spirits is its constantly changing game board, which keeps each round dynamic. The interplay between Ghost Cards, some of which can be stacked for higher scores, requires careful planning and strategy. Watching your opponents’ actions adds an extra layer of competition. Funko Games’ attention to detail shines through, particularly in the artwork, making it a great pick for Haunted Mansion fans. It’s an ideal choice for spooky, family-friendly fun, especially during the Halloween season.
