  • Ages: 6+

Cobra Paw is a 2 player game brought to us by Bananagrams. It is rated for 2-6 players and plays in about 5-15 minutes for players (or ninjas) ages 6+. I picked up Cobra Paw strictly for the theme. I mean, cats and ninjas? Where could you go wrong? I bought this game expecting to laugh a lot and I was right.

What’s In the Box?

  • 21 Tiles (Called Clawfuku Stones)
  • 2 Dice (Called Catnippon Dice)
  • Instructions to Cobra Paw

Setup

Set up for Cobra Paw is simple: place all 21 tiles in the center of the play area and keep the dice handy for all players. Bing Bang Boom! You are ready to play Cobra Paw!

Objective

In Cobra Paw, you are trying to get the most tiles first. If you are in a 2 player game, you are aiming to get 8 tiles first, and if you are playing with 3 or more ninjas, you are looking to get 6 tiles first.

Gameplay

Gameplay for Cobra Paw is very straight forward. The player with the smallest paws (hands) will roll the dice first. The dice will show two designs on them. The players are looking to grab the tile with these two designs on it first. The player who snatched the tile up is the next player to roll the dice. The first player to reach the goal amount of tiles first wins!

There are also a few variations to the game you can play to keep it interesting. One such rule involves removing one of the tile patterns. If this tile shows up the first player to shout “Cobra Paw” wins a tile from the center. You can also institute a no touching rule, which means if a player touches a tile that is incorrect, they cannot collect a tile that turn. Additionally there is also a variant for 2 players to reach 11 tiles first, also including the no touching rule.

Final Thoughts

Cobra Paw may not be complex enough to center a game night around. However, it is both an excellent game to play between events, and a great addition for younger players. I enjoy that it involves quick thinking and plays in a short amount of time, which makes it extra great for little ones with short attentions spans. And not for nothing, I also appreciate that this adds to my growing collection of cat themed games. I wasn’t intending on building a cat themed section to my collection, but I am not upset about it. Overall, if you are looking for a quick, fun game for epic game nights, or a shorter game to play with the little ones, Cobra Paws fits the bill.
